Overview

Women's Health at Wallan Doctors

Women's health concerns are often put off, minimised or squeezed into the end of another appointment. We'd like that to change. At Wallan Doctors, you'll be able to book time specifically to talk about your periods, hormones, pelvic pain, menopause or sexual health, with a GP who listens and explains your options clearly. Nothing is too small or too awkward to raise, and you can take the conversation at your own pace.

You can ask to see a female GP when you book, and you're always welcome to bring a support person. Our doctors will work with you on a plan that suits your life and goals, and refer you to gynaecologists, breast clinics or allied health professionals when that's the right next step. Women's health care starts in Wallan from April 2027.

Straight answers about women's health at Wallan Doctors.

Yes. You'll be able to request a female GP when you book. We'll share details of our doctors as our team is confirmed before we open in April 2027. You're always welcome to bring a support person or ask for a chaperone during any examination.

Cervical screening is recommended every five years for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74, if your previous result was normal. Your GP may recommend more frequent testing depending on your results or history. Our team will help you keep track of when you're next due.

Yes. GPs commonly help with perimenopause and menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep problems, mood changes and vaginal dryness. Your GP will talk through the options, including lifestyle changes and treatments, and consider your personal and family history when working out what's suitable for you.

You'll generally need a GP referral to see a gynaecologist and receive a Medicare rebate. Your GP can assess your symptoms first, organise any initial tests or imaging and refer you with the right information, so your appointment with the gynaecologist is as useful as possible.

Period pain or heavy bleeding that affects your daily life isn't something you need to accept as normal. It can have several causes, including endometriosis, fibroids or hormonal conditions. A GP can assess your symptoms, arrange tests and talk with you about management options and referrals.
