Overview

Immunisations at Wallan Doctors

Vaccination is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself, your children and the people around you. Some vaccines are given in childhood, some are boosted in adulthood and some are recommended for pregnancy, older age, certain health conditions or travel. It can be hard to keep track, which is where a regular practice helps. Our team will help you understand what's recommended for you, and when.

When Wallan Doctors opens in April 2027, our GPs and practice nurses will check what's due, explain the benefits and possible side effects, and record each vaccination on the Australian Immunisation Register. Some vaccines are funded under the National Immunisation Program for eligible people. Others have a cost, and your GP will explain this before you decide. We'll also send reminders when your next dose is due.

FAQ

Immunisations: common questions

Straight answers about immunisations at Wallan Doctors.

We plan to offer childhood vaccinations on the National Immunisation Program schedule, catch-up vaccinations, seasonal flu vaccination, and adult vaccinations including shingles, pneumococcal, whooping cough, hepatitis A and B, COVID-19, meningococcal and RSV. Travel vaccination advice will also be available. Availability will be confirmed before we open in April 2027.

Yes. Every vaccination we give will be recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register. You can view your record, or your child's record, through your Medicare online account or the Medicare app. Records are often needed for school, childcare, some workplaces and travel.

Some vaccines are funded under the National Immunisation Program for eligible people, while others have a cost for the vaccine itself. Eligible consultations will be bulk billed. Your GP or nurse will explain any vaccine cost before your vaccination so you can make an informed decision.

Book a travel health appointment six to eight weeks before you leave if you can. Some vaccinations need more than one dose or time to take effect. Even if you're leaving sooner, it's still worth booking, as your GP can review your routine vaccinations and give advice for your destination.

You'll be asked to stay at the clinic for about 15 minutes after a vaccination. This is standard practice in Australia so that staff can respond quickly in the rare event of an allergic reaction. It's also a good time to ask any questions about aftercare or your next dose.
