FAQ

Family Planning & Pregnancy: common questions

Straight answers about family planning & pregnancy at Wallan Doctors.

We plan to offer IUD and contraceptive implant insertion and removal when we open in April 2027, provided by GPs with appropriate training in these procedures. You'll usually have a consultation first to discuss suitability and what's involved, then a separate procedure appointment. Details will be confirmed as our team is finalised.

Shared pregnancy care means your GP provides many of your antenatal check-ups locally, while your chosen public hospital oversees your care and the birth. You'll have some appointments at the hospital and others with your GP. It can reduce travel and give you continuity with a doctor you know.

It's generally recommended to see a GP if you haven't conceived after 12 months of trying, or after six months if you're 35 or older. See your GP sooner if you have irregular periods, a known medical condition or other concerns. Both partners can be assessed.

Yes, a pre-pregnancy check is a good idea. Your GP can review your general health, medicines and vaccinations, recommend folic acid and iodine, check for conditions that need managing and discuss carrier screening. It's a chance to ask questions and plan with confidence.

The right contraception depends on your health, how long you want protection, side effects you'd prefer to avoid and how it fits your routine. Your GP will explain how each option works, including long-acting reversible options, and help you choose. You can review your choice at any time.
